De overkoepelende organisatie van Europese vakbonden EurECCA* roept de Europese autoriteiten op praktijken van luchtvaartmaatschappijen te stoppen die cabinepersoneel dwingen als zelfstandig ondernemer te werken.

De COVID-pandemie heeft de luchtvaartindustrie hard getroffen. Dat heeft geleid tot banenverlies, ontslagen, loonsverlagingen en slechtere arbeidsvoorwaarden voor cabinepersoneel. Sommige luchtvaartbedrijven blijven de mazen in de wet opzoeken en maken hardnekkig gebruik van onbestaande thuisbasissen en schijnzelfstandigheid. Personeel moet als zelfstandig ondernemer voor deze bedrijven aan de slag, met als gevolg baan- en rechtsonzekerheid.
EurCCA heeft de Europese autoriteiten opgeroepen om met een gecoördineerd standpunt te komen en een einde te maken aan luchtvaartmaatschappijen die cabin crew dwingen om als zelfstandige te werken.

Binnen Europa wordt door EurECCA nog altijd gestreden voor het standaardiseren van procedures en wet- en regelgeving. Dit is noodzakelijk om het gebruik van mazen in de EU-regelgeving te vermijden en voor crewleden fatsoenlijke arbeidsvoorwaarden, eerlijke concurrentie en gelijke sociale normen te garanderen. Op 16 december aanstaande heeft EurECCA een overleg gepland met vertegenwoordigers van de EU, waarin deze belangrijke zaken op de agenda staan.

The COVID pandemic has hit the airline industry hard. This has led to job losses, layoffs, wage cuts and poorer working conditions for cabin crew. Some airlines continue to look for loopholes, persistently making use of non-existent home bases and bogus self-employment. Crew has to work as independent entrepreneurs for these companies, resulting in job- and legal insecurity.
EurCCA has called on European authorities to take a coordinated position and end airlines forcing cabin crew to self-employment.

Within Europe, EurECCA is still fighting for the standardization of procedures, legislation and regulations. This is necessary to avoid the use of loopholes in EU regulations and to ensure decent working conditions, fair competition and equal social standards for crew members. On December 16th, EurECCA has scheduled another standing meeting with EU representatives, in which these important issues are on the agenda.
