Het is de VNC gelukt om de volledige dus correcte doorbetaling van het salaris voor cabinepersoneel bij LEVEL Airlines Europe in Nederland veilig te stellen.

Afgelopen weken is de VNC door bijna al haar leden bij die sectie benaderd over de onvolledige salarisbetaling van afgelopen april.

Aanvulling salaris
Net als bij vele andere luchtvaartmaatschappijen zit het cabinepersoneel thuis en heeft LEVEL Airlines staatsondersteuning (NOW) aangevraagd om de salarissen voor haar personeel door te betalen. In afwachting van de toekenning van de NOW heeft LEVEL Airlines alleen het basissalaris uitbetaald. Dat was fors minder dan wat het cabinepersoneel normaal verdient en sommigen zakten zelfs onder het minimumloon. Dat is in strijd met de bepalingen in de NOW en onder het minimumloon mag natuurlijk al helemaal niemand uitkomen. Bij LEVEL Airlines bestaat het salaris van cabinepersoneel namelijk uit een basis- en  flexibel component: het aantal gevlogen uren boven het minimum van 65 uur.

De VNC heeft rechtstreeks contact opgenomen met de fiscaal jurist die in Nederland Level Airlines op dit gebied vertegenwoordigt en onze kennis van de werking van de NOW met hem gedeeld. Dat heeft geleid tot overleg met het management in Wenen en tot een correctie van het april salaris van het cabinepersoneel.

Wettelijke vakantiegeld
LEVEL Airlines heeft de systematiek overgenomen die wij op basis van onze ervaring bij easyJet hebben geadviseerd, namelijk het aanvullen van het basissalaris met het gemiddeld aantal gevlogen uren over de maanden januari, februari en maart van 2020. Daarmee heeft het cabinepersoneel ook duidelijkheid over hoe het salaris van mei en juni eruit gaat zien.

Daarbij zal LEVEL Airlines natuurlijk voor 1 juni ook de wettelijke 8% vakantiegeld moeten betalen.

The VNC is securing cabin crew salaries for LEVEL Airlines Europe for the time being

The VNC has succeeded in securing the full, therefore correct, payment of cabin crew salaries to LEVEL Airlines Europe in the Netherlands.

In recent weeks, the VNC has been approached by nearly all of its members in the Level  section regarding last April's incomplete salary payments.

Salary supplement
As with many other airlines, cabin crew are at home and LEVEL Airlines has applied for state support (NOW) to continue to pay salaries for its personnel. Pending the NOW Scheme, LEVEL Airlines paid only the base salary.
That was significantly less than what the cabin crew normally earns and some even fell below the Dutch minimum wage. This is in conflict with the provisions off the NOW Scheme and of course no one may fall below the minimum wage. At LEVEL Airlines, cabin crew salaries consist of a basic and flexible component: the number of hours flown above the minimum of 65 hours.

The VNC has contacted the tax lawyer directly representing Level Airlines in the Netherlands in this field and has shared our knowledge of the operation of the NOW with him. This has led to consultations with management in Vienna and to a correction of the cabin crew's April salary.

Statutory holiday pay
LEVEL Airlines has adopted the system that we advised based on our experience at easyJet, namely supplementing the base salary with the average number of hours flown over the months of January, February and March of 2020. This also gives cabin crew members clarity on how salary from May and June will look like.
LEVEL Airlines will of course also have to pay the statutory 8% holiday allowance before 1 June.
