Luchtvaartmaatschappijen KLM, KLC, Transavia, TUI, Corendon, easyJet, Martinair en Delta hebben vandaag de Nederlandse Staat gedagvaard. Het kort geding richt zich tegen het eenzijdige besluit van de Nederlandse overheid over de drastische krimp van Schiphol in 2023. De VNC staat volkomen achter deze juridische stap.

Ook Barin, de branchevereniging voor in Nederland actieve luchtvaartbedrijven, ondersteunt de gang naar de rechter.

Tegen het waterbedeffect
Wij staan als vakvereniging voor behoud van banen van onze collega’s. Bovendien los je met dergelijke ingrijpende beslissingen het probleem rondom duurzaamheid niet op. Je verlegt slechts het probleem naar buiten de Nederlandse grenzen en dit samen met de werkgelegenheid en economische belangen. We hebben afgelopen tijd met zijn allen kunnen constateren dat er niet minder maar meer passagiers willen vliegen. Als je vluchten vanaf Schiphol verminderd, creëer je het zogenaamde waterbedeffect: je verplaatst het probleem inclusief onze werkgelegenheid naar het buitenland.

Tegenovergestelde uitwerking
De VNC lobbyt dan ook al heel lang in Den Haag en Europa tegen de krimp van Schiphol. De overheid doet aan ‘natte vinger werk’ en baseert zich op jarenoude geluids- en uitstootmetingen van een destijds oude vloot, terwijl die inmiddels is gemoderniseerd met al zuinigere en stillere vliegtuigen.
Het idee van het Kabinet om vliegbewegingen jaarlijks van 500.000 naar 440.000 te reduceren, is niet aantoonbaar de oplossing voor minder stikstofuitstoot en geluidsoverlast. Met de verstrekkende vermindering van vluchten komt er ook minder geld binnen om de investeringen in nieuwe vliegtuigen te realiseren. Hierdoor wordt het beoogde effect van een meer duurzame – lees meer reductie van Co2 uitstoot en geluidsarmere vloot juist gedwarsboomd.
De krimp is ook in strijd met (inter)nationale en Europese regelgeving en veroorzaakt een oneerlijk speelveld. De overheid heeft ook niet de alternatieven van de luchtvaartmaatschappijen onderzocht.
De VNC staat volkomen achter de juridische stappen die nu worden genomen door het collectief van luchtvaartmaatschappijen en hoopt dat de Staat tot een beter overwogen besluit zal komen.

VNC in support of summary proceedings by airlines against reduction Schiphol

Airlines KLM, KLC, Transavia, Martinair, TUI, Corendon, easyJet and Delta have sued the Dutch government today. The summary proceedings are directed against the Dutch government's unilateral decision on the drastic reduction of Schiphol by 2023. The VNC is in full support of these legal proceedings.

Barin, the trade association for aviation companies operating in the Netherlands, is also in support of this decision.

Against the waterbed effect
As a trade union, we stand for preserving jobs for our colleagues. Furthermore, you do not solve the problem of sustainability with such drastic decisions. These measures only shift the problem beyond the Dutch borders, along with employment and economic interests. We have all seen recently that more, not less, passengers want to fly. If you reduce flights from Schiphol, you create the so-called waterbed effect: you move the problem, including our employment, abroad.

Opposing effect
The VNC has been lobbying in The Hague and Europe against the reduction of Schiphol for a long time. The government’s actions are based on data from years of noise and emission measurements of an old fleet, which has since then been modernized with aircrafts that are more efficient and produce less noise.

The governments idea to reduce annual flight movements from 500,000 to 440,000 is not demonstrably the solution for reduced nitrogen emissions and noise pollution. With the far-reaching reduction in flights, there will also be less earnings to realize investments in new aircrafts. This actually thwarts the intended effect of a more sustainable - read more reduction of Co2 emissions and a quieter fleet.
The reduction of flight movements also violates (inter)national and European regulations and causes an unfair playing field. The government has also failed to examine the airlines' alternatives.

The VNC fully supports the legal action that is now being taken by the collective of airlines and hopes that the government will come to a more careful considered decision.
