Just this early morning the Steering Committee of ETF changed their position on the EASA FTL proposals. Without consulting their members ETF made a political deal on EASA FTL. Flight Safety is not a political issue that can be negotiated. Rules and regulations concerning flight safety should be based on scientific evidence. The European Commission explicitly ordered EASA to do so. EASA disregarded that European guidance and brokered a political deal with stakeholders resulting in the proposal up for voting today.
On behalf of more than 45.000 cabin crewmembers represented by the big European Cabin Crew Unions who exclusively represent cabin crew in France, The Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Italy and Portugal reject the EASA FTL and the shift of opinion that ETF made this morning. We call upon you as a member of the European Parliament to take responsibility and vote for safety in the airline industry by rejecting the proposed legislation. Which means that you have to vote yes for the motion.
Reasons to do so:
Scientific evidence on limits on night flights have been ignored;
Member state will be required to lower their safety standard to EASA FTL;
Standby time will not be taken into account in combination with the flight duty periods resulting in working times of more than 22 hours.
NO TO EASA FTL IS THE ONLY ANSWER!
